Several people from the low-carb community have contacted Atkins Nutritionals, Inc., about the Kimkins controversy, citing both how Kimmer freely admits that she based her diet plan on Dr. Atkins' work and frequently stated that her plan was "similar" to, or parts of it were "exactly the same" as Atkins' 1972 version. Add that to the obvious name stealing, and there just might be a few problems there!
In a reply to a concerned reader, Atkins Nutritionals said this:
"Thank you for your inquiry.
We are aware of the scam and are working to correct the information out there. Thanks for the heads up."
Another reply dated much earlier quoted the Atkins Nutritionals spokesperson as saying that they were forwarding the information to their legal department for review.
What we find most interesting about this is the use of the word "scam" by the Atkins Nutritionals person.
We will update with any new information as it becomes available.
